The idea of your comfort zone I believe is fairly well-known. Your comfort zone is a safe place. You are familiar with the people, the routine, and the expectations in your life. When I imagine the concept of a comfort zone, I imagine a bubble that fits very closely. This bubble is your energy and your potential. When the bubble fits you so close, it allows you to move, but not to grow. You are stagnant. Unprogressing.
If you choose to live outside your comfort zone, your energy and your potential increase, but it’s not without risk. As you let your bubble grow so that it’s not so tightly stuck to you, it risks getting scratched, torn, punctured, or meeting multiple other hazards. You may feel unsafe and unprotected, like you are opening yourself up for hurt, disappointment, pain, and failure.
Despite that risk of being uncomfortable, with extra space in your bubble, you now have room to grow. You can learn, try new things, and expand your abilities. You are empowered to take steps towards your goals and your dreams. As your energy fills your bubble, it becomes snug, and again you are charged to make it grow.
I have come across people in my life that are always living outside their comfort zone. I don’t know if they even HAVE comfort zones. They are always pushing themselves. I admire them so much. Not only have they learned to live outside their comfort zones, they’ve learned to LOVE the feeling of being there. They don’t mind the risks.
This is the kind of person I strive to be. I hope to always remember that, when it comes to taking those risks that allow my bubble to grow, the thought of might go right should always trump the fear of what should go wrong. I challenge you to get used to the feeling of your bubble not fitting so tight. Think of all the good you could do!
